Charlize Theron Confirms ‘Atomic Blonde’ Sequel Is On The Way

Lorraine Broughton is coming back to kick even more ass.

We’re calling it: that 10 minute, single-shot staircase fight scene from Atomic Blonde will go down as one of the greatest action sequences of all time.

So we’re pumped to see how they will manage to up the ante for the sequel. Charlize Theron just confirmed we’re getting one.

“We’re working on a sequel,” the Oscar-winning actress told an audience at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

She’s got her work cut out for her. Theron said the martial-arts training she underwent to perform most of her stunts in Atomic Blonde was brutal.

“I have the muscle memory, but I hadn’t done anything like that for many years,” she said. “The strength level was starting from scratch. I do have the discipline, dance teaches you that. I don’t like people telling me there’s something that I can’t do. I thrive in that environment.”

Theron effectively undid all that training for Tully, her most recent collaboration with director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody. For the role, she gained 50 pounds to play a mother with postpartum depression.

“I wanted to feel like I was the character, I’m in her body,” she said. “I never dealt with depression my entire life, but eating as much sugar and processed food, I started losing my mind. I was so depressed, I couldn’t sleep. I’m not a method actor, and all of sudden I became one.”

Tully hits theaters May 4th.
