Science Confirms We’re All A Little Freaky

But just how much?

When it comes to kink, we’re still pretty closeted. Sure, we may have pop culture phenomena like the much-debated 50 Shades franchise, but there’s a reason you don’t see people in studded harnesses walking each other around the park on leashes. As a country we’re getting more and more comfortable talking about sex, but anything besides vanilla love-making is still largely taboo.

But just because we’re not talking about it doesn’t mean we don’t want it. Upscale sex toy brand Lelo, who makes some of our favorite nightstand companions, released a study on our BDSM behaviors and attitudes. Cheekily titled “The Bondage Survey,” they polled 1,100 people around the world, and roughly 77% of them admitted to trying BDSM (Bondage, Domination, Sadism, Masochism) themselves. An overwhelming 84% say they’d like more kink in their life, and a whopping 90% think S&M is part of a healthy relationship.

But it’s not all whips and chains. The most frequent BDSM activities reported were spanking and getting tied up—that’s easy enough to toss into your rotation, right? So get out there and let your freak flag fly; you might just like it.
