The 10 Best Dance Scenes from Non-Dance Movies

With Cuban Fury hitting theaters this week, we’re pumped about dancing. Here are our favorite moments from non-dance films.

Cuban Fury, starring Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd, and Nick Frost, hits the big screen on Friday, and we can’t wait to watch as these two schmucks try to salsa their way into Jones’ heart. Until then, we’ll have to settle for taking a look back at some memorable dance scenes from non-dance movies. Ready? 5-6-7-8!

1. Napoleon Dynamite

What’s better than a high school nerd in Idaho breaking it down to Jamiroquai for his best friend’s political campaign? The answer is nothing! IDIOT, GAH!

2. The Breakfast Club

Saturday detention sucks. But it becomes iconic when a bunch of the biggest teen stars of the 1980s dance in the library together. Also of note: Molly Ringwald is a real fox on those stairs.

3. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

If you’re going to skip school, then you need to find a way to hijack a parade and lip-sync the Beatles. It’s just the right thing to do.

4. 500 Days of Summer

This seems eerily indicative of what would probably happen if one were to get lucky with the real Zooey Deschanel. Not that we would know or anything. Just a suspicion.

5. Risky Business

One of the most classic scenes in movie history…it almost cancels out what a weirdo Tom Cruise turned out to be. Almost

6. Pulp Fiction

We couldn’t leave out dance movie king John Travolta. A super young Uma Thurman joins him for a very fun and classic version of the Twist.

7. The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Hair is a hippie musical about the sexual revolution. The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a movie about Steve Carell trying to get laid. Both come together to make a beautiful masterpiece of love and understanding.

8.Beetlejuice

What do you do when a bunch of assholes inhabit your house after you die? You make them do a choreographed dance to Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O” and haunt them with shrimp cocktail. Honorable mention goes to the ending scene in which Winona Ryder flies and shakes it to “Jump in the Line.” Tim Burton, if you’re reading this, please just do this again. And nothing else.

9. Tropic Thunder

Oh look, it’s Tom Cruise again. As hot-headed movie studio executive Les Grossman, he hip-thrusts to Ludacris in this glorious extended version of the famous scene.

10. Silver Linings Playbook

What do you get when you take two ridiculously good-looking crazies in Philadelphia? An amazing set of amateur ballroom dancers, apparently. And an Oscar for Lawrence.
