Master of disaster Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm) has turned the story from the campy original upside down, deep-sixing character development for amped-up destruction on the high seas. This is definitely not your father's Poseidon adventure. The taut 2006 version is a nonstop action flick that doesn't come up for air, telling the story of an ocean liner's New Year's Eve celebration that goes awry when a giant wave capsizes the revelers. With an all-wet all-star cast lead by Kurt Russell and Josh Lucas, the movie features some of the most astounding underwater sequences ever filmed. Sure, the storyline is run-of-the-mill fodder, a cheap excuse to dump 90,000 gallons of water on hysterical people—but when those people are soaking-wet babes like Mia Maestro and Emmy Rossum, it's a vast improvement over Shelley Winters doing the dog paddle in the original.
