The Skinny: Two 40-year-old man-children (Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly) become stepbrothers when Reilly's dad (Richard Jenkins) marries Ferrell's mom (Mary Steenburgen). A constant game of one-upmanship ensues.

The Good: The movie has a nasty little mean streak that makes up for its total goofiness. Ferrell and Reilly aren't lovable dolts, they're lazy assholes—and trust us when we say that makes a hilarious difference. And it's great to see veteran character actor Jenkins stealing a few scenes from his more well-known comedy costars.

The Bad: The story kind of goes nowhere after a certain point. And the whole "conflict/resolution" bit in the last half smacks of a last-minute script meeting: "Hey, anyone know how to end this movie? Anyone?"

A Little Bit of Joel: But just when you think the movie has run out of gas, Horatio Sanz shows up as the prickly frontman of an '80s-specific Billy Joel tribute band, complete with dancing Christie Brinkley look-alike!

Theater, DVD, or TNT in Five Years? Check it out in the theater. It's a nice break from the constant assault of special effects. Nowhere in Dark Knight does someone rub their ball sack on a drum kit.
