Grunge never died. It just got a haircut and moved to England. Nine Black Alps are the latest batch of Brits to exhume Kurt Cobain’s corpse and charge it full of life. Fortunately, they do this without sounding like either shameless necrophiliacs or, worse, Bush. “Cosmopolitan” is a breathless, feedback-drenched punk-pop sprint, and even though much else here feels very 1993, it’s an invigorating trip back in time.
