Gold Medal

The Donnas have always come off like the Ramones’ younger sisters working through a healthy Mötley Crüe fixation: bratty, loud, lewd, and refreshingly reckless. But on Gold Medal they’re growing up, and the results aren’t as much of a turn-on as you’d think. Their playful four-on-the-floor stomps give way to sinister, reverb-drenched kiss-offs (“Gold Medal”) and sneering pop-metal taunts (“Revolver”). It’s darker, but somehow it’s not quite as much fun.
