Lenny Kravitz is a talented songwriter, musician, and producer, but on his sixth album, the one-man show Lenny, he trades in his hooks and guitar licks for way too much studio wizardry. Almost everything here, from the vocal-effect-drenched single “If I Could Fall in Love” to the lyrically lazy ballad “Yesterday Is Gone (My Dear Kay),” lacks fire—except “Bank Robber Man,” a pissed-off rocker in which he recounts being wrongfully detained by Florida cops. Morbidly, you’ll wish Lenny had 11 more such experiences to draw from.
