Artist:
Morphine
Rock lost one of its most respected talents this past summer when Mark Sandman, frontman of cult-favorite alternative rock trio Morphine, died of a heart attack. The band recorded The Night just before Sandmans death, and the evocative slow groove and scintillating sax line on the title track drive home the loss: It may be the best thing Morphine has put on record. The other 10 songs are equally intoxicating, mixing the bands trademark back-alley sound with a revitalized sense of experimentation. The results are powerfully primitive.
