The Chicago Cubs Are Going To The World Series And No One is Happier Than Bill Murray

It’s been 71 years since the Cubs last went to the big show.

For the first time in 71 years, the Chicago Cubs are going to the World Series. We’re not sure anyone is happier about this than comedy legend Bill Murray.

Video of Murray at the moment it became clear his team had clinched the National League Championship briefly went viral on social media Saturday. It’s easy to see why—it’s rare to see the comic actor noted for his dry delivery in a moment of pure, childlike joy. Murray’s love for golf is well-known, but he’s also a die-hard baseball fan. He even wore full Cubs regalia on a recent trip to the White House, where he briefly commandeered a press conference to express his confidence the Cubs would win.

The Cubs shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers with a handy 5-0 win, and all of Chicago immediately went into full-blown party mode. No wonder—while a 71-year dry spell is bad enough, the Cubs haven’t won a World Series in 108 years.

The Cubs face the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on October 25 for game 1 of the World Series. If Bill Murray is their good luck charm, it could be another blowout, even if Charlie Sheen shows up to throw the first pitch for the Indians.
