• Zero Edge Aquariums

    Zero Edge Aquariums

We always said that, if we became super villains, we would get a giant fish tank to put in our office so our enemies would know we meant business. We're tweaking that little now and opting for one of these "high definition" aquariums. These aquariums have no top and the water runs down the sides of the glass into hidden drains. From there it's recirculated back into the tank. The result is a glass-like sheet of water on the outside of your tank that makes everything inside look incredible. It's also quiet, energy efficient and a heck of a lot cooler than that old 2-liter bottle you've been keeping your fish in. $1,299 and up.

  • Dell Adamo XPS

    Dell Adamo XPS

Dell isn't exactly known in the PC world for making beautiful machines. But, the Adamo XPS is a big departure from their blocky past. It's slimmer than the MacBook Air and has a unique hinge system that angles the keyboard in a way that using it won't annihilate your wrists. Inside are some serious computer guts, including a Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB RAM and a big ol' solid state drive that will survive the rough treatment a laptop gets at airport security. Perhaps the coolest feature though, is the way it opens. The computer stays locked shut until its owner swipes his or her finger over a certain spot on the lid. Doesn't that make you feel special?

  • KAWS RxArt Kiehls Grooming Products

    Kiehls Grooming Products

Even if you don't know it, you have probably encountered some artwork from New York-based designer KAWS. For his latest project, he has slathered artwork in his trademark style onto bottles of grooming products from the swanky lotion-slingers at Kiehls. Products range from $26 to $70 and 100% of the profits go to the RxArt initiative, which is dedicated to making art installations in hospitals to help cheer up the sick. The bottles will be available in limited numbers, so you can help out a charity and fix your face at the same time. Or, just flip it on eBay for a lot more than you paid for it.

  • Nike Zoom Kaiju Snowboard Boots

    Nike Zoom Kaiju Snowboard Boots

Snowboarders can smell the powder coming even though it's still too early to get out there and shred. That means all kinds of new snowboard gear is emerging, including Nike's brightly-colored new boots. They also come in a less-flashy black and blue colorway, but both models use Nike's Zoom Air for cushioning as well as the Flywire and Free systems to help you customize fit and comfort level. Even if they bright colors don't match the graphics on your board, at least they will help reduce the moon man look you'll have walking around the lodge.

  • Beefeater 24

    Beefeater 24

Master distiller, Desmond Payne has more than 40 years of experience making booze that tastes incredible. That experience is immediately evident when you take a sip of this ultra-classy gin. The 24 in its name comes from the 24-hour steeping process required to infuse all of the flavors into each batch. On first drink, you'll notice an interesting flavor added by tea, something you won't find in a lot of gin bottles. It sits nicely at 45%, which means it's smooth enough that you can actually enjoy the unique taste. Just be sure to stock up on the tonic.

  • Penfield Rockford Coat

    Penfield Jacket

Flannel is back in full force for this season. But if you're not ready to go full-on Farmer John style, you can get a little bit of those wonderful checks in the form of this stylish-but-burly winter coat. The nylon casing is windproof and water-resistant. Plus, it's filled with 80/20 goose down to keep your torso from freezing off all together once El Nino decides it's time to punish the entire northern part of the country. Expect to pay $200 to keep all your limbs from turning black and falling off in the cold.

  • Herman Miller Setu Chair

Setu ChairYou spend enough time planted in your office chair that it's worth shelling out some petty cash for a good one. The Setu has a "kinematic" spine that flexes to accommodate your butt. There are no knobs or buttons to adjust. You just sit down and let the tuned elastomers do their flexible thing. Each chair will cost you $600, but that's a lot cheaper than a bunch of trips to the chiropractor. Plus, it's 93% recyclable which makes it as good for the environment as it is for your vertebrae.

  • Big Screen Gems

    SLIM PICK (BEST FOR SPORTS!!)
    Samsung PN50B860 50-inch Plasma

THE GOOD: At just 1.2 inches thick, this sexy set’s more svelte than a wallet burdened with Benjamins—but looks even better switched on: The contrasty colors provided the most 3-D picture in our test. And, NFL fans, take note:  Since it’s a plasma, there’s no noticeable motion blur.

THE BAD: Its picture was so sharp we could see Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s pancake makeup in Race to Witch Mountain. Gruesome. $2.159, amazon.com
    Rating: 4.5

    BACK TO BLACK
    LG LH90 Series 47-inch LCD

THE GOOD: During our test this set’s local-dimming LED backlight made an HD Donnie Darko look, well, really dark-o, and its 240 Hz screen refresh rate (though not as high-tech as Sony’s) reduced motion blur to near zero.

THE BAD: Our other three sets all had Net connectivity—this
LG doesn’t. And during playback of two Blu-ray discs, we saw a pixelated stripe near the bottom
of the screen. $2,400
    Rating: 3.5

    FILM FREAK (BEST BUY!!)
    Toshiba SV670 Series 46-inch LCD

THE GOOD: This set offers the most cinematic experience of the bunch; during a viewing of Fargo, Maxim staffers were amazed by this local-dimming LED set’s deep blacks and rich, ultrabright renderings of Minnesota snowscapes.

THE BAD: Its big stand looks like a turkey platter; not good unless you’re seeking a place to serve hors d’oeuvres. $1,740
    Rating: 4.5

    GADGET GOD
Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR9 52-inch LCD

THE GOOD: This Sony is loaded with more extras than a garbage pizza; it can connect to the Web through an ethernet cable and stream Netflix and Amazon movies on demand. Even when you’re watching live TV, applets will update you on stocks and how much your body mass index is ballooning as you sit motionless.

THE BAD: Even with tweaks the picture looked grainier than the other sets’, and we couldn’t get shadows Gotham-dark in a viewing of Batman Begins. $2,298
    Rating: 3.5
