Outfitted: Matthew Daddario

This NY native is taking the TV domain by storm.

You might not recognize Matthew Daddario at first glance, but soon enough he’s all you’ll be talking about. The budding star originally shipped off to college in pursuit of a business degree, but left realizing that acting was his real passion. After a few acting classes, it started to become an obsession, and he kept at it until he starting booking roles. With a few wise words from his stunning sister, actress Alexandra Daddario, Matthew knew he was on the right track. “She made it seem like a possibility for me,” he says. “I don’t know if I would’ve thought about it without her presence. It was definitely an influence.”


Now, Matthew is tackling his first ever television role on the upcoming ABC Family series, Shadowhunters. With any show based off of a widely popular novel, a little bit of added pressure comes with the role and living up to certain expectations. For Matt, that didn’t seem to be the case. “I’m not nervous at all actually,” he says. “I’m finishing up the books and I understand Alec [his character]. Everyone has certain things in common with the character you play and we definitely share some of the same traits.”


Hollywood’s already embraced one ‘Daddario,’ and now it’s time they made room for number two.


Matthew filled Maxim in on his farm life fantasy, love for socks, and the appropriate time to drink tequila.

If I wasn’t acting, I would own a farm. Not like growing crops but maybe have a few animals like cows, and maybe an alpaca or a llama. I would chop wood all day. I would make a living doing that, it’s like an idealistic scenario for me. It’s very contrary to my upbringing but maybe that’s the appeal to it. [laughs] I don’t know the negatives, just the idea in my head.

I go through phases, but ultimately I see myself coming back to pairs of socks. I can have something fun on my feet that’s hidden. It’s fun to have cool socks.

When I was a teenager, I was going for comfort and trying to make that look good. You find something that fits and comfortable, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been able to combine that comfort and style, which is hard to do sometimes.

It depends on the environment to pick the best drink. I wouldn’t drink tequila at home by myself, but at the same time you wouldn’t drink beer when the ball drops on New Year’s. It’s up to the mood of the group.

Every guy has got to have a tuxedo. If you’re ever invited to an event where a tuxedo is necessary, you need to have it ready to go. A good fitting one too, it just has to look good.

If you’re trying to impress a girl, go with something that doesn’t look like you’re trying to impress, but you should still make an effort. It goes back to what you’re comfortable with. Look like you’re there with interest.

I have some NASA memorabilia from the early Apollo days that I can’t imagine parting with. I’ve always wanted to play sort of like a space cowboy too, like the idea of Captain Kirk. I think that’s everybody’s dream though, right?
