The Solar-Powered Plane of the Future Stretches Its Wings

In the future, we’ll all be praying for sunny skies.

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Sunseeker, the solar-powered airplane that first turned heads in 2009. Manufacturer Solar Flight first caught our attention this July when they crossed the Alps and back, and seem hell-bent on continuing their success: their two-seater model, the Sunseeker Duo, repeated the record-breaking trip on August 7th.

Gizmag reports that the president of Solar Flight, Eric Raymond, brought his wife along for the ride, which made stops at the Matterhorn and then Genoa, Italy.

The large-scale adaptations of this technology are still unclear, but this trip could be taking us one flight closer to clean air travel. Provided, of course, that in the future it never rains.
