ISIS Hacked CentCom’s Twitter

A group claiming to be ISIS has hacked a Pentagon Twitter account, and begun distributing information on military personnel.

A group claiming to be ISIS hacked the Twitter feed of CENTCOM, the United States Central Command, which is in charge of military operations abroad. The hacked Twitter feed (as well as a hacked YouTube feed) has issued threats to American soldiers.

In a series of Tweets from the hacked account, the group has shown off lists of American personnel and their home addresses, as well as army plans for attacks on China and Korea. One Twitter post wrote, “AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK!”. The severity of the hack and whether ISIS has indeed obtained sensitive documents has yet to be seen, as none of the information they have leaked appears to be marked “confidential.”

“We’re putting together a statement we’ll be sending out,” a representative for CENTCOM told Maxim. We’ve also reached out to Twitter for comment. We’ll update the story as it progresses.

Update 1:50 PM: Both the Youtube channel and the Twitter account has been suspended. None of the documents leaked appear to have been not publicly available before the leak.

CENTCOM just released the following statement: “We can confirm that the CENTCOM Twitter and YouTube accounts were compromised earlier today.  We are taking appropriate measures to address the matter. We have no further information to provide at this time.”
