Don’t hold the unfortunate antics of “absurdist humorists” like Blue Man Group against Stella, an enormously random and—get this—funny new series from a trifecta of veterans from MTV’s The State. In Stella’s world, fluffing pillows passes for apartment cleaning, open-heart surgery is ably performed with a butter knife, and Ed Norton occasionally shows up to proffer dry shirts. And everything—racquetball, sauna sojourns, Flashdance-ish dance numbers designed to impress co-op boards—is done in a suit. Having honed their repartee on stage in New York over the last decade, the three Stellans (David Wain, Michael Showalter, and Ed refugee Michael Ian Black) enjoy a patter-fast, breezy kinship that stands in stark contrast to Saturday Night Live.
