On the Fourth of July we think it only proper to tipple in patriotic fashion, which doesn’t have to mean simply bingeing on Bud and PBR (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

To help you get in the spirit here are five underappreciated all-American sippers perfect for sipping around the grill.

1. Westland Distillery American Single Malts

Westland

Seattle’s Westland Distillery’s new three-pack is the perfect sampling of its core range of its American Single Malts – American Oak, Peated and Sherry Wood.

2.  Barr Hill Tom Cat Barrel Aged Gin

Our new favorite summer spirit is a gorgeous gin made with juniper and honey and aged in American oak casks from Vermont’s Caledonia Spirits.

3. Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey

Anchor Distilling

Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey from San Francisco is considered by many to have spearheaded the craft whiskey movement.

4. New England Distilling Eight Bells Rum

New England Distilling

This bourbon-barrel matured gold rum, distilled in Maine from Carribean molasses, has flavors of toasted spice and vanilla with a long, smooth finish.

5. Breckenridge Colorado Gin

Jared Paul Stern

Colorado’s first gin is made with pure Rocky Mountain water and 100% neutral spirits distilled from grain for a distinctive American flavor.
