A24 is known for turning out some brilliant modern horror flicks. Think Hereditary and Midsommar, or if horror doesn't do it for you, Adam Sandler's gritty, Safdie Brothers-directed thriller Uncut Gems.
The buzzy production house is now reaching back into the depths of history--specifically, the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table--with an upcoming historical thriller starring Dev Patel, The Green Knight. The trailer above is all the evidence you need that this will be the kind of intense moviegoing experience we've come to expect from them.
Here's the synopsis from A24:
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men.
Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger...
At one point a character says in voiceover, "We all fear, but fear can be a gift."
We'll see if The Green Knight--directed by David Lowery and also starring Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, and Sean Harris as King Arthur--gives that gift when it premieres in theaters in Summer 2020.
