Throwback Thursday: May 2000 – Kristy Swanson

Check out what we were up to in May of ’00. Don’t worry, we’ll leave out our middle school class picture.

Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we’re going back to May of 2000, when Kristy Swanson was still on the big-screen, patterned gats were a thing, and grainy videos games were the best video games.

Cover Girl: Kristy Swanson

Where You’ve Seen Her: The original Buffy! This gorgeous blonde was slaying vampires long before Sarah Michelle Gellar. Star of the 1992 big-screen version of the franchise, Kristy Swanson introduced herself to the world doing back flips while donning a cheer uniform – and we appreciated it wholeheartedly. She later made it into films like Big Daddy, The Phantom, and Higher Learning, and was the star of the TV show Grapevine.

Where She Is Now: In terms of film, not a whole lot has happened for the bodacious blonde. While she’s had a few notable appearances in TV shows like Psych and Law & Order, most of her recent roles have been limited to little-known B-list movies. However, we like to give credit where credit is due, and, after being reminded of how hot Kristy Swanson was, we can see where the current vampire movie craze came from.

Shot Through The Art

There’s a ridiculous number of things wrong with this picture, from a piece about “firearms with flair” – for starters, the sparkly pink AK-47 named after the creator’s ex-girlfriend, Natasha. This may be the most compelling evidence yet of the need for stricter gun laws; anyone who actually wants a sparkly neon-patterned gat should not be allowed to carry one.

Fore! Play

“Realistic” may not be the most accurate way to describe these archaic video games, especially compared to modern-day games, where your avatar can be a complete replica of yourself rather than a more grainy, mechanical version. (Full disclosure: we prefer the latter; avatars these days are often better versions of ourselves, making it really difficult to pass off lounging in our unambitious filth as acceptable.)
