Watch: Axl Rose Rocks Portugal As Frontman For AC/DC
He nails it.
Guns N’ Roses howler Axl Rose took to the stage in his new role as frontman for rock icons AC/DC on Saturday. The concert in Lisbon, Portugal marked the beginning of the European leg of AC/DC’s tour.
As for Rose, concert fan videos seem to indicate he had the music pretty well in hand and did a fine job of honoring ex AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson while still maintaining his own unforgettable sound — even though he had to do it all from a chair, laid up by a broken foot.
Website Ultimate Classic Rock provided a pretty thorough breakdown of the concert and included the setlist:
“Rock or Bust”
“Shoot to Thrill”
“Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be”
“Back in Black”
“Got Some Rock & Roll Thunder”
“Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”
“Rock ‘n’ Roll Damnation”
“Thunderstruck”
“High Voltage”
“Rock ‘n’ Roll Train”
“Hells Bells”
“Given the Dog a Bone”
“Sin City”
“You Shook Me All Night Long”
“Shot Down in Flames”
“Have a Drink on Me”
“T.N.T.”
“Whole Lotta Rosie”
“Let There Be Rock”
“Highway to Hell”
“Riff Raff”
“For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”
Here’s Rose pretty much killing it with the opening song, “Rock or Bust”:

Rose’s energy didn’t flag much, either, as by the time the rockers swung around to classic “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” he was still shredding along with Angus Young.
In fact, by the time AC/DC steamed into the closer, “For Those About to Rock,” Axl Rose sounded like he had a second wind. The video is a little more stable than the usual fan shot but the sound is more than clear enough to indicate classic rock fans concerned about the inimitable voice of Guns N’ Roses taking on music first set in stone by Brian Johnson need not worry: this metal gold is in good hands.
