“This attitude is why people hate celebrities.”

Actor Rob Lowe, of St. Elmo’s Fire, The West Wing and more recently Parks & Recreation, took aim at actress Bella Thorne on Instagram, after she posted a “tone-deaf” tweet about the mudslides in Santa Barbara County.

On Tuesday, heavy rainfall triggered mudslides throughout the California country, affecting residential areas and hardly hitting the wealthy town Montecito. In all, 17 people, ages three to 89, have been confirmed dead while another 40 are missing.

These tragedies did not register for Thorne after ensuing traffic in the area caused her to miss her boyfriend’s concert. In a now-deleted tweet from Wednesday, she vented her frustrations.

The tweet was roundly criticized as tone-deaf and self-absorbed, which prompted Lowe to weigh in. “This attitude is why people hate celebrities/Hollywood. Bella, I’m sorry you were inconvenienced. We will try to move out our dead quicker,” he wrote in an Instagram caption.

Bella’s boyfriend, the rapper “Mod Sun,” defended his girl on his Instagram story. “I thought you was cool, man. Now you’re being whack,” he said. “It’s quiet as fuck here from Rob Lowe. Quiet as fuck!”

“You’re saying the reason that people should like celebrities is because you bash them? You bully someone else? You publicly make someone look bad?” he continued “These are just the facts, jack!”

Bella has since tweeted that she “had no idea why the 101 was shut down” and pleaded for her fans to get home safe.

She has yet to formally apologize, to Rob Lowe or the victims.
