Ben Affleck, as both director and leading man, explores the dark side of the American dream in the forthcoming crime noir Live by Night.

Adapted from an award-winning novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Shutter Island), the story follows Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston police captain who abandons the straight and narrow to build a bootlegging and rum-running empire during prohibition South Florida.

Based on the recently released trailer above, there will be plenty of heady action sequences, car chases and mobsters wearing hats.

Live by Night, co-starring Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Brendan Gleeson, Zoe Saldana, Chris Cooper and Elle Fanning, hits theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.
