There are many important factors that go into the formula for a Bond film. There’s James Bond, because, duh. There’s a vixen of a Bond girl at his side. And there are martinis and shoot outs and car chases in very expensive cars and villains. But with all that visual action, sometimes we forget yet another signature touch of the franchise — the theme song.
Bond theme songs fall into a narrow category of songs that provide a great soundtrack for both fucking and crying and murdering international villians. And Sam Smith’s “Writing's on the Wall” is no different. The song for this November’s Spectre, which premiered on U.K. radio on Friday morning then was released on iTunes and Spotify shortly after, pairs Smith’s signature pipes with robust orchestral drama.
