Taj Gibson did his darndest to add some spice to the punchless 2013 NBA playoff series between the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night at the United Center.

With eight minutes and change left in the second quarter of Game 2, Gibson set a jarring pick on former Bulls teammate C.J. Watson before rolling to the rim, catching a pinpoint bounce pass from Nate Robinson and finishing with a thunderous dunk over a late-helping Kris Humphries.

This came mere moments after Gibson sent back a layup from Humphries on the other end.

In a related story, the collective Schadenfreude of the basketball world grew three sizes that day, Grinch-style.

Gibson’s slam accounted for but two points in a 9-1 run that saw the Bulls extend their lead to 12 points in the second quarter at the “Madhouse on Madison.”
