Channing Tatum Could Be Abandoning Gambit

Sources are saying that the Magic Mike star might not portray the comic book fan favorite after all.

After campaigning to play the Cajun mutant thief on the big screen, it seems Channing Tatum has changed his mind. Sources from The Wrap are stating that the star is stepping away from Marvel’s stand-alone Gambit film, with issues regarding his deal putting things “in jeopardy of falling apart.” This news comes just after Tatum brought the hype to Comic Con’s Hall H, joining in on a huge Marvel selfie and essentially reassuring fans that he would probably show up for a surprise cameo in the next X-Men installment, X-Men: Apocalypse.

There’s been no definitive answer as to whether Channing will officially step away from the film, but we’re seriously hoping he changes his mind. The 35-year old is the epitome of Remy LeBeau: fast-talking ladies man who has a knack for getting in trouble every once in a while. Plus, it was just last month that he was reportedly working with a magician to master his card tricks (and hopefully a voice coach to master that Cajun accent). Maybe if they cast his Step Up co-star and wife, Jenna Dewan Tatum, as Remy’s love interest Rogue, he might be more inclined to stay on board.

Channing Tatum has been the driving force behind Gambit since Fox first announced it, so they’ll have to move fast to find a replacement if things turn out for the worst. I guess there’s always Taylor Kitsch, right?
