Did a Clerical Error Keep Drake’s “Hotline Bling” From Being Eligible For a Grammy Nomination?

Sounds like Cash Money dropped the ball.

After the nominees for the 2016 Grammy Awards were announced the other day, a lot of people were surprised to see that Drake got nods for his songs “Energy,”  “Back to Back,” “Truffle Butter,” and “Only” but not for the year’s biggest earworm, “Hotline Bling.”

According to the site Hits Daily Double, the cause for this snub wasn’t due to lack of the song’s popularity, but rather due to a clerical error on the part of Drake’s label Cash Money. Several sites have picked up the rumor, but no back story has been given as to the actual facts (if there are any) behind it. If there was indeed a clerical error made, no one aside from Drake himself, and the label in question, know what it was. Maybe their fax machine broke down? People still use those, right?
