This New Trailer For Doctor Strange Is Mind-Bending Fun
This may be Marvel Studio’s weirdest superhero flick yet.
Marvel Studios has released the third trailer for Doctor Strange. It gives both a closer look at Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous Kaecilius as well as just how trippy Dr. Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) transformation into Sorcerer Supreme may truly be.
Doctor Strange tells the story of a talented and arrogant neurosurgeon who upon losing his livelihood to an injury finds himself drawn into a surreal world of reality-bending magic. He learns that he is in a position to take a part in defending the Earth from threatening forces outside his own dimension.
The previews we’ve seen of the film—which also stars Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor—have revealed imagery more reminiscent of Christopher Nolan’s Inception and even the later Harry Potter films than Marvel’s usual fare.
However the Avengers get a mention that explains how brawny superheroes are different from the magical Doctor in this trailer, and in a dry exchange between Kaecilius and Strange there’s a dose of one of the best elements of Marvel Universe films, occasional injections of comedy into the mayhem.
Doctor Strange warps realities in theaters on November 4, 2016.
