We sat down with an expert from the Talisker, single malt scotch distillery and tasted a few of their whiskys. Then we asked if we could taste some more.
Talisker 10-Year-Old
Price: $49
Talisker: This has a rich, dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavors, warming and intense. At the back of the mouth is an explosion of pepper.
Maxim Editor Cory: This stuff is friggin’ delicious. As someone who spent a lot of his college years drinking out of whisky in plastic bottles,t his is a major upgrade.
Talisker 18-Year-Old
Price: $64
Talisker: Sweet in front, then more assertive with a hint of smoke as it coats the palate. An overall warming effect develops toward the finish with notes of smoke and toffee.
Maxim Editor Cory: This is very similar to the first one with a slightly sweeter overtone at the beginning, and then ends with a nice long smoky finish. This stuff is as smooth as I wish my back was.
Talisker 30-Year-Old
Price: $349
Talisker: A mild nose-feel, very reserved and slow. At first, a teasing fruit acidity and dried fruits, with sweeter notes. Quickly then, sooty
smoke with aromatic spices after a while and polished oak, followed by more fruit. Water makes it more maritime, and it unfolds with a smoky development.
Maxim Editor Cory: This is what drinking is all about. I can’t imagine a whisky tasting bettert han this. I thought the extra age might have some ill effects, but this whisky is almost creamy. It’s balanced perfectly and it combines citrus and smoke to get the perfect finish.
