There’s been a Mermaid Barbie spotting at the beach. Dua Lipa, who both performs “Dance the Night” from the Barbie soundtrack and stars as the blue-haired mythical doll in the mega-blockbuster, channeled the role on an Albanian coastline not far from her ancestral Kosovo.

In sizeable Instagram photo dump, Lipa is seen wearing a black thong underneath an eye-catching red sheer dress as she assumes various positions during a beachy sunset.

If there was any doubt that the pop star was connecting to her mermaid character, she captioned the carousel, “Charging my crystals.”

According to W Magazine, Lipa is midway through a vacation in her homeland, and she’s been kind enough to provide her 88.7 million followers a few other photogenic updates.

With 3.4 million likes, a collage led by a picture of the “Levitating” singer in a brown bikini is the most popular of the bunch. The most recent, simply captioned “calmmmmmm,” shows Lipa taking a deep drag of a cigarette on a serenely scenic sundeck.

Between the beachy updates, Lipa also celebrated the success of her “Dance the Night” single, which recently hit the top five on the UK charts.

“The first thing I saw from the Barbie movie when [producer] @iammarkronson asked me to write the song for the big dance scene in the film was the cast dance rehearsals. We then set off with the plan to write a song based on Barbie’s inner thoughts in that very moment on the basis of what was to come next in her story and on the premise of the whole film,” Lipa captioned footage rehearsals for the song’s big on-screen moment.

“Fast forward to seeing the song we wrote together alongside @wyattish and @carolineailin come to life on the big screen was a very surreal moment for me. The song no longer felt like it belonged to me but belonged to Barbie and her perfect/imperfect self.”

The success of “Dance the Night” comes as no surprise, give its wildly successful source material. Barbie has smashed already-lofty expectations to earn $351.4 million at the domestic box office after just two weeks, a sum reached following the best second weekend ever for a Warner Bros. movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Its global cume currently sits at an extraordinary $774.5 million, putting it on track to join The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the second member of 2023’s $1 billion box office club.
