EA Sports is introducing a fast-paced new way to play a round of Madden, just in time for the NFL season. Dubbed Superstar KO mode, this just might be the closest Madden has ever looked to the old school arcade stylings of NFL Blitz, where hail mary bombs and end zone celebration dances trump strategic play calling and airtight defense.
Games within the Superstar KO mode will last roughly five minutes, short enough to play a full one within the halftime of any NFL game. You can play solo or team up with a squad to jump in for some online action. Just pick a strategy, draft some elite players, smoke your opponent in a single-possession match, steal their top players and earn some ultimate team rewards in the process.
The free mode also comes with some superstar personalities outside the NFL turning up with appearances by Lil Yachty and DJ Khaled locked in, though it’s unlikely to see them donning helmets and hitting the gridiron.
To make sure everyone has a chance to check out the new mode, EA Sports is hosting a free-play weekend to coincide with the start of the NFL season, from September 5 to 8.
