FOX just dropped the trailer for its forthcoming Exorcist reboot series, and it's less pea-soup vomit and whirling heads and more slow-burn suspense.
The chilly, atmospheric new series reportedly draws its inspiration directly from William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel, which was famously later adapted to the big screen for "the most terrifying movie ever made" (as the trailer claims).
Much like the 1973 film version, the series is a "propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession."
Academy Award winner Geena Davis plays the restless mother of a possessed teenager, played by Brianne Howey this time. Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera plays the newcomer priest well in over his head while Ben Daniels plays the more seasoned exorcist.
There's no official release date, but FOX has promised the show will debut this fall.
