The ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Trailer Broke a Record Held by ‘Force Awakens’
Strangely, sex may be a bigger draw than lightsabers.
This may shock you, but apparently a shadowy movie trailer filled with sex and hints of violence has beaten a space opera promo for all-time number of views in 24 hours.
After its debut on Sept. 14, the trailer for Fifty Shades Darker netted 114 million views, reports The Hollywood Reporter—breaking the original record-setting 112 million views of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer by a mile.
The U.S. reportedly represented he largest number of clicks from a single nation, with Darker receiving 39.4 million views. The rest of the eager fans were (covertly) watching from the U.K., Mexico, and the E.U.
The next installment in the series of films starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan and based on English author E.L. James’s series of mildly S&M-themed novels hits theaters on Valentine’s Day, 2017.
