Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiered Saturday in Los Angeles. While detailed critical reviews won't be available for a few days, social media reactions from those lucky enough to attend almost universally term this one of the best movies since The Empire Strikes Back.
Even better, some tweets addressed the worry that Last Jedi might be an Empire redux, just as Force Awakens followed the dramatic beats from the movie that introduced fans to this fictional universe, Star Wars: A New Hope.
Most reactions were simply raves, many calling it the best—and perhaps the most profound—film in the franchise.
It was hard to find negative reactions. Like, any.
That's to be expected, given the isolated, hand-picked nature of a glamorous premiere, but at the same time, the tidal wave of raves went well beyond simple politeness.
People are already crazy about this movie, it seems. As in "would be camping on the sidewalk in front of the theater if it weren't snowing so much."
We'll see if all the hype was real when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres nationwide on Dec. 15.
