The Foo Fighters Brought an Aussie Fan Onstage to Play Guitar on ‘Monkey Wrench’ and He Absolutely Killed It
Chance of a lifetime.
Let’s just admit right now that Dave Grohl seems like an awesome guy. Still, he may not be above trolling his fans a little, either.
Not long ago he invited a young fan onstage to play drums, and the guy blew him away. He just did the same thing in Australia, this time with a young guitarist at a concert in Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

As the tweeted news report from 7 News Brisbane indicates, the kid was named Joey. Like the drummer in the earlier concert, he’d apparently made a sign that grabbed Grohl’s attention, so the musician probably figured “screw it, why not?”
He did warn Joey what he was getting into, telling him “The last thing you want to do is come up here and shit the bed in front of 40,000 people in your hometown.”
Yeah, Joey did not come close to wishing he’d gone to sleep wearing Depends. He shredded through the Foo Fighters‘ 1997 song “Monkey Wrench.” He apparently had the time of his life, later saying he idolizes Grohl “and just to be in the same breathing space as him [is] going to be with me a lifetime.”
As for Dave Grohl, he seemed suitably impressed. Then he said, “Get the fuck off my stage.”
Coming from him that’s more like a friendly bro-hug.
Good job, Joey. Even if you were a plant—which we doubt, the Foo Fighters seem too straightforward for that—you really crushed it.
