Happy Halloween! Tim Burton Is In Talks for a “Beetlejuice” Sequel

Is “the ghost with the most” returning to the big screen?

No, that spooky guy in the striped suit isn’tRobin Thicke. It’s Beetlejuice, the titular character from one of Tim Burton’s awesomest early movies. Well, you might be seeing him again soon, because, according to the Schmoes Know podcast, the ghost with the slight head-spinning problem could be coming back in a Burton-directed sequel to the classic from way back in ’88.

For those who haven’t seen it (for shame!), Beetlejuice tells the tale of a yuppie couple (Katherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) and their goth daughter (Winona Ryder) who move into a house in Connecticut, only to be haunted by the recently deceased young couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who had been living there. When their efforts to scare the new residents fail, the newly dead pair hires a slimy, car salesman-like ghoul named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton, in perhaps his greatest role ever) to do their dirty work. Got all that? (And, yes, the cast is freakin’ incredible.)

The film is a great argument for the theory that the only good Tim Burton movies are the ones named after a person (or, in this case, a ghost). Think about it: Edward Scissorhands, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Ed WoodBatman…awesome. Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, Mars Attacks!…not so much. Hopefully, adding a “2” to Beetlejuice won’t move it into to the latter category.
