The first two minutes make the spin-off look like a Mission Impossible movie on steroids. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw beat the hell out of bunch of armed men while advancing through what appears to be some sort of top-secret facility, all while delivering cheeky banter.
Idris Elba then appears as scene-stealing villain Brixton Lore, an ex-MI6 agent-turned-terrorist who's in possession of a humanity-threatening supervirus. Oh yeah, and he calls himself "Black Superman."
Mission Impossible: Fallout star Vanessa Kirby debuts as Shaw's sister, and Helen Mirren reprises her role as the siblings' mother.
It's not until Hobbs returns to his Samoan roots that viewers get a line that obviously references the Fast & Furious films.
"This family is going to war," Hobbs says. "We're gonna need cars and guns."
When Hobbs' mom informs him that she "got rid" of his arsenal, all of the good guys perform a battle dance before taking on Elba and his forces in a 300-style battle filled with hand-to-hand combat.
Like we said, it's ridiculously over the top. And totally awesome.
Catch Hobbs & Shaw in theaters on August 2.
