It Only Took a Few Edits to Turn “Bloodsport” into a Mentos Commercial

Maybe every piece of the footage shot in the eighties just looks the same.

As you would expect from a movie so-titled, “Bloodsport” is an incredibly violent film, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as an army recruit gone AWOL in order to fight in a martial arts tournament whose penalty for losing is… death. Yet, perhaps due to some universal 1980’s lens or the cheesy grin JCVD rocked even when judo-chopping, it only took someone a few choice edits and the Mentos theme song to turn “Bloodsport,” into an authentic looking period Mentos commercial, complete with a final freeze-frame salute. From widow-maker to freshmaker, in a few choice cuts: magic!
