James Van Der Beek Will Play Hard-Partying DJ Diplo in New TV Series

This should be interesting.

To play a massive douche, one must also be a douche… or at least “James Van Der Douche.”

For the first-ever scripted series on VICELAND, Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek will play the hard-partying, globe-trotting DJ/music producer known as Diplo, famous for his countless collaborations, feuds with M.I.A., posting on Instagram a lot, making fun of bald guys and performing in Ibiza.

The conceit of the show, curiously titled What Would Diplo Do?, sounds oddly promising. Also produced and written by Van Der Beek, the series will follow a fictional version of the DJ in a collection of standalone parables. Perhaps Diplo will introduce each show and then Van Der Beek will appear in flash-back vignettes like some sort of modern-day Twilight Zone?

Van Der Beek was quite funny on the show Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 where he played a fictionalized version of himself, so this could work out. “I’ve enjoyed deconstructing my own image quite a bit over the years, but to have the chance to do it with a global megastar like Diplo who’s letting us to do something fun and ridiculous that few people have the balls to allow is crazy,” the actor said in a statement.

VICELAND, the cable channel from VICE Media and A+E Networks, has ordered six episodes for a 2017 premiere. Stay tuned.
