Jared Leto’s Creepy Joker from ‘Suicide Squad’ Is Getting His Own Movie

Does the world really need this?

Warner Bros.

The first Suicide Squad spin-off was made official last year when Margot Robbie confirmed that she would star in a Harley Quinn movie. Now the Joker is getting his own flick too.

Variety reported Tuesday that Jared Leto’s version of the iconic villain will be the subject of the next Suicide Squad spin-off. The famed method actor is set to star in and executive produce the unnamed movie.

Variety has precious little information about it, other than noting that Warner Bros’ intends to “expand on the world created by Suicide Squad and tie into future installments of that property.”

The announcement of a Joker-centric movie is a big win for Leto and his fans, who were disappointed to see so little of Leto in Suicide Squad. Leto himself complained about his scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, going as far as fantasizing about his own death so that people could see the good wok he did.

“There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” he told IGN. “We did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.”

“If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere. That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Leto’s Joker movie is at least the third in the works at Warner Bros. at the moment. There’s also the one starring both Leto and Robbie’s Harley Quinn in a “criminal love story.” And then there’s a Joker movie that has nothign to do with Leto.

Set to be produced by Martin Scorsese, the origin story will be directed by The Hangover‘s Todd Philips and star Joaquin Phoenix as the troubled villain
