Jennifer Lopez Will Play a Rule-Breaking Detective on Shades of Blue

It’s J. Lo’s first TV series role in 20 years.

Jennifer Lopez will appear in her first  scripted TV starring role in January, when NBC premieres the cop drama Shades Of Blue.

Yep, we’re all tired of network cop dramas and it’s not very encouraging that NBC couldn’t come up with a title that doesn’t immediately recall yet another network cop drama. But this one has a promising twist: J. Lo’s character is a Brooklyn detective who, along with her partners, has a habit pushing the envelope of the law. When the FBI catches up to her latest rule-breaking plan, she is forced to turn informant against her partners. One of these partners is Drea de Matteo, who famously played a reluctant informant herself in The Sopranos.Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, Hannibal) rounds out the impressive cast as Lt. Matt Wozniak.

Lopez, who is a judge on American Idol, last appeared as a scripted series regular on the forgotten 1994 drama Hotel Malibu, but no one will ever forget her as a Fly Girl on In Living Color.

Shades of Blue will get a two-hour premiere on Sunday, January 14. We’ll be watching!
