Witness The Birth of Netflix’s New Superhero Gang In The First Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Defenders’

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist unite to fight… Sigourney Weaver?

Marvel dropped the first official trailer for their Defenders team today, and the internet is going nuts. 

Slated to debut on Netflix this August 18th, the upcoming season of the show brings together the four solo Marvel/Netflix collaborations of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to form The Defenders, and they’re combining their collective might to take on a mysterious villain named Alexandra, played by the outstanding Sigourney Weaver.

Individually, these four superheroes have had extremely dark backstories that were fleshed out in their own seasons (two for Daredevil), Marvel’s Defenders seems to have a lighter, friendlier tone that is more reminiscent of how we watched The Avengers assemble just a few years ago. Well, until they start fighting, that is. Then it looks like they’ll be kicking all kinds of ass… against Sigourney Weaver and her henchmen.

Weaver’s role as Alexandra might end up being the highlight here since it’s the biggest x-factor of the show. Few women in Hollywood seem capable of pulling off sinister the way Weaver can. She’s more than earned her spurs in terms action throughout her long career, and we’re excited to see her folded into the Marvel Comic Universe, especially as a villain.

Only time will tell if The Defenders can rise to the same kind of acclaim that we’ve seen of the other heroes in the MCU that have made it to the silver screen, but we’ll keep our hopes high as we eagerly await marathoning The Defenders’ first season later this summer.
