This Is What Happens When You Take a 95 MPH Fastball To the Face
R.I.P. Matt Holliday’s nose.
Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday took a 95 MPH fastball to the nose in the Cardinals loss to the Padres Thursday night, a scary moment that could have been worse if Holliday wasn’t such a tough son of a bitch.
As the Andrew Cashner heater came screaming toward’s Holliday’s face, he attempted to get out of the way. But there’s only so much getting you can do when some high, stinky cheddar is flying at your head. Luckily Holliday was able to get everything but his nose out of the ball’s path.
After writhing around on the ground for a moment, Holliday stood up and walked to first base. He reportedly tried to stay in the game, but the team wouldn’t let him.
That’s good. Holliday did what any high level athlete would have done and tried to play through the injury. And the Cardinals did what every team should do and didn’t allow the dude who just took a baseball to the melon to make the decision.
Somehow Holliday didn’t even break anything and the team is listing him as day-to-day.
