If you were wondering who Zach Galifianakis brought as his date to the Hangover Part III premiere last night, it’s the same lucky lady he brings to most of his red carpet events: Nope, not his wife, but rather 87-year-old Elizabeth ‘Mimi’ Heist. She works as a laundromat volunteer in Santa Monica, and first met Zach when he moved to the area as an unknown comic nearly 20 years ago.
But if you assumed that Zach is parading Mimi around like Cee Lo does his cockatoo – as some sort of extended comedy or art piece – you’d be wrong. It turns out that he’s more like Mimi’s guardian angel. And though they briefly lost touch after Zach hit it big, when he learned that she’d became homeless two years ago, he found her a cozy apartment, and has taken care of her rent and utility bills ever since. And whenever Zach isn’t in LA for a big event, he sends Mimi in his place, and even lets her bring a friend.
“I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my makeup,” Mimi told the New York Daily News.
“Afterwards they have a party at somewhere close by and you meet the stars. I drink lemon drop martinis with Grey Goose vodka. It’s fun, not something I ever dreamed I’d experience. The limo takes me home afterwards.”
We’ve gotta admit, this makes us want to be part of Zach’s wolfpack more than ever.
