Big Upset: Browns Over Ravens
The Browns started the season in very much the same way as the entire NHL: by not showing up at all. However, they have won two of their last three, including a big shutdown of San Diego’s offense, holding them to 6 points all day. If they can do the same to Flacco and Rice while hanging a few on the Raven’s depleted D, they’ll have a shot to even the season series.
Big Performance: Matt Forte
The Bears have hit their stride, winning their last five, but they almost dropped one to the sub-par Panthers last week. This week they visit the Titans, who can proudly proclaim that they have given up the most points in the league. Is this the week that Lovie Smith realizes that the run is the key to the Bears’ offensive success? Will Julius Peppers do to Chris Johnson what all of his fantasy owners have wanted to? Will Phoebe and Joey finally be together? I mean, uh, football things!
Big Flop: Ben Roethlisberger
The only thing worse than Big Ben’s “weekend fun times” are the bumblebee costumes that Pittsburgh donned last week. In order to balance out the embarrassment, the QB went wild on the Redskins. This week they visit the Giants, who have a banged up secondary that has still has been getting the job done. Replacement safety Stevie Brown is allergic to not picking off errant throws and the seasoned line is starting to hit the opposing QB, despite a slow start.
Big Storyline: Michael Vick’s Job
The fact that the Eagles play on Monday prolongs the Andy Reid and Michael Vick will-they-or-won’t-they drama all the way into the workweek. The walrus-esque head coach has already said he’s standing by his man, but one can only wonder if we’ll see Nick “The Haircut” Foles get some action if Vick isn’t doing the job.
Big Stinker – Cardinals at Packers
Last week we guessed that the Cardinals and 49ers would be a meaningful and hard-fought game, and anyone (with power on Monday night) saw how that went. The Cardinals are a team ravaged by injury and lacking any fight whatsoever. The Packers are looking to make a statement after a game against the Jags that was close for far too long. The Cardinals might be walking into a massacre at Lambeau.
