Oh, Mandy

Homeland’s Mandy Patinkin was also in The Princess Bride. We say his two characters really aren’t so different. Really!

Showtime’s Homeland is the hottest show on TV, as evidenced by a shit-ton of Emmys and phone calls from your mom asking what the heck it’s all about. It stars actor/singer/chameleon (what the heck is his ethnicity anyway?) Mandy Patinkin as grizzled CIA honcho Saul Berenson. Mandy, of course, also played Inigo “My name is Inigo Montoya” Montoya in the swashbuckling ’80s classic The Princess Bride (which, incidentally, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year). So how different are these two guys anyway?

They both have notable facial hair!

Saul Berenson: Unruly (and greying) beard.

Inigo Montoya: Well-trimmed black moustache.

They’re both on a life-long quest to find someone!

Saul Berenson: High-ranking Al-Qaeda member Abu Nazir.

Inigo Montoya: The six-fingered man.

They both have a pal with an identity crisis!

Saul Berenson: Bipolar Carrie Mathison.

Inigo Montoya: Wesley/Dread Pirate Roberts.

They both have a natural talent!

Saul Berenson: Talking Carrie down from the brink of insanity.

Inigo Montoya: Swordplay.

They both have shady teams they’re involved with!

Saul Berenson: The CIA.

Inigo Montoya: Vizzini and Fezzik.

They both have a big secret to reveal!

Saul Berenson: We don’t know yet, but it’s gotta be something big to keep people paying for Showtime.

Inigo Montoya: Not left-handed.
