Queens of the Stone Age Bring the Heaviosity
The stoner rock icons are back for the first time in six years.
The stoner rock icons are back for the first time in six years.
Sure, they may be called Queens of the Stone Age, but there’s no doubt the New Mexico rockers are the Kings of Stoner Metal, as their new single, “My God Is The Sun,” clearly shows:
The song, which the band debuted last month at Lollapalooza Brazil, is a typically sludgy, heavy dirge, featuring frontman Josh Homme’s wailing vocals and pummeling percussion. We haven’t seen much of the band since the 2007 release of
Era Vulgaris
(no, that’s not an episode of “Game of Thrones”), but they return in full force on June 4 with …
Like Clockwork
, which sees Homme and company re-team with former collaborators Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl, and Nick Olivieri (if that’s not enough, the album also features Trent Reznor and…Elton John. I know) While the band has no tour planned, they will be hitting Chicago for this summer’s Lollapalooza on August 2nd through 4th, along with The Cure, Mumford and Sons, the Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and more. Given Homme’s proclivity for collaboration we can’t wait to see who will join them on stage. After all, at their show in Santiago, Chile, this weekend, Eddie Vedder did his best Will Ferrell impression, playing cowbell on the track “Little Sister.” Clearly, they’ve got a fever. And the only prescription is more cowbell.
