Immediately after Holly Holm destroyed Ronda Rousey last month, people were talking rematch. And even though Holm said Rousey deserved one and UFC head Dana White said it “makes a lot of sense,” there was some reason to believe that Rousey would never enter the octagon again. With an acting career that’s about to blow up, Rousey could easily turn away from a life of brutality.
She won't though. As White confirmed Thursday on ESPN, the rematch is on. “Yeah, that fight’s going to happen. I don’t know when, but that’s the fight that’s going to happen,” White said.
Some have suggested that Rousey should fight someone other than Holm next. Perhaps someone who's not a world class boxer, allowing Rousey time to better prepare for a rematch. A tune-up to regain confidence hardly sounds like a bad idea either.
Meanwhile, Holm's waiting for her next fight. If she has to wait for Rousey to be ready for their re-match, that could mean sitting on the sidelines until next July. So while White's promising a rematch, the details remain murky as ever.
For now, we wait.
