Sandra Bullock Fights the Good Fight in the Our Brand Is Crisis Trailer
Based on a true story, the political dramedy looks like it could be this year’s Argo.
Sandra Bullock brings her signature comedic edge to the political drama Our Brand Is Crisis, which released its first trailer on Tuesday.
David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) directed the adaptation of the 2005 documentary of the same name, about a once-unstoppable political strategist hired to help elect an unpopular Bolivian presidential candidate. Bullock plays the punchy “Calamity” Jane Bodine, who arrives to her new gig thoroughly out of her element but quickly becomes invested in the job once she understands the stakes.
“Wake up: This is war,” she says to a roomful of Spanish-speaking campaign workers who don’t understand a word she is saying. “There’s only one wrong in this — only one — and that is losing.”
Bullock’s Bodine faces her longtime nemesis, played by Billy Bob Thornton, who is working for her candidate’s opponent. Zoe Kazan and the criminally underused Anne Dowd, who was the second best thing about The Leftovers, appear in supporting roles.
Our Brand Is Crisis will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set for an October 30 theatrical release.
