SNL Releases Hilarious Failed Star Wars Auditions

Sofia Vergara would have looked great in space.

The upcoming Star Wars installment is arguably the most anticipated cinematic event of the decade. So, it’s no surprise that some of Hollywood’s hottest stars wanted in on the intergalactic action.

In a digital short from last night’s SNL, JJ Abrams unveiled screen tests for celebrity contenders that didn’t quite make the cut. We think Sofia Vergara would have looked great in space.

We’re not quite sure how Jon Hamm got passed up for the role of Hamm Solo or how Danny DeVito (played by Bobby Moynihan) failed to convince as BB-8, but we see why a squinting David Beckham (played by Taran Killam) didn’t get the go-ahead.

Also featured is Bobby Moynihan as George Lucas struggling to use the force to get a Coke Zero.

This sketch harks back to 1997 when SNL released a similar string of mockStar Wars auditions. They included failed attempts by the likes of Christopher Walken (played by Kevin Spacey), Jack Lemmon (also by Spacey), Burt Reynolds (played by Norm MacDonald), and Barbra Streisand (played by Ana Gasteyer).

See who did make the cut on December 18 for the US release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
