Throwback Thursday: June 2007 – Sarah Silverman
Check out what we were up to in June of ’07. Don’t worry, we’ll leave out our middle school class picture.
Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we’re going back to June of 2007, when Sarah Silverman was the hottest comedian around, cavemen were selling you car insurance, and Ashlee Simpson’s SNL lip-sync scandal had finally blown over.
Cover Girl: Sarah Silverman
Where You’ve Seen Her: Sarah Silverman‘s been tickling our funny bone since the early ’90s when she was a writer/actress on Saturday Night Live. A year after being fired from that gig via fax (welcome to the ’90s!), the stand-up comic moved her talent to The Larry Sanders Show, where she stayed until its end two seasons later. After a few movie appearances and a high-profile standup career, she finally settled for primetime, starring in her own Comedy Central show, The Sarah Silverman Program, in 2007.
Where She Is Now: After her eponymous comedy series came to an end in 2010, the actress stuck around the TV world, with cameos in series like The Good Wife and Children’s Hospital. From there she moved on to the big screen, starring in Disney hit Wreck-It Ralph, The Muppets, and Take This Waltz. But our favorite Sarah Silverman moment had to be when she announced to the world that she was fucking Matt Damon. With 20 years in the industry already under her belt, we’re looking forward to 20 more.

In 2007 we put our trust in a caveman when it came to buying car insurance. So easy a caveman could do it?! Sounds good to us – thanks, Geico! And when he ventured to the pages of our magazine, decked out in leisurely human clothes, we trusted him even more. But like any progressive society, we’ve moved on to bigger and better life coaches. Like talking lizards. Perfect.
Hot Right Now: Ashlee Simpson
We all remember Jessica Simpson – the virtuous blonde pop star who strutted onto the big screen wearing nothing but a tight t-shirt and some cheeky daisy dukes – but when we found out she had an equally hot younger sister, our heads imploded. Ashlee Simpson arrived in the music world in 2004 when her debut album Autobiography came out. Singles like “Pieces of Me” and “La La,” got tweens dancing, but later that year she became more known for her infamous SNL appearance, in which she was caught lip-syncing. Unfortunately her hoedown dancing wasn’t enough to stop her from getting blasted by the media. Luckily, by 2007 all was forgotten, and we got back to focusing on more important things, like celebrating the impeccable Simpson family genes.
