Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum to Star in Afghanistan Evacuation Thriller

Based on true stories, the plot follows special forces operators on a rescue mission during the U.S. military’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy will lead the cast of a military thriller ripped from news stories covering the U.S. military’s evacuation of Afghanistan.

Deadline got the scoop and reports on a plot “based on recently reported true stories…focusing on three former special forces team members who jump back into the fray alongside their Afghan counterparts to rescue families and allies left behind. The third operator has yet to be cast.

Universal signed off on the untitled project’s pitch from George Nolfi, writer and director of 2011’s well-reviewed sci-fi thriller The Adjustment Bureau.

As Movieweb notes, both of the actors are currently very active. Hardy, who recently reprised his starring role in the Venom comic book sequel Let There Be Carnage, will play a downtrodden detective fighting through a criminal underworld in Netflix’s upcoming 2022 action movie Havoc.

Tatum is set to co-direct the upcoming Dog, in which he will also star as an Army Ranger racing to attend his best friend and handler’s funeral.

The U.S. completed its withdrawal of armed forces from Afghanistan earlier this year, at which point the Taliban took control of the nation for the first time in 20 years. The moment marked the end of what President Biden referred to as “America’s longest war.”
